I think it's easier if you bind the ModelBinder to the original `input` element rather than what select2 generates. The current version of select2 says that a "change" event needs...

@BarryBaum I ultimately gave up on the avro codec and switched to a JSON-only feed. I haven't had any problems with the feed since then so I haven't revisited it.
