Request: "Soft Enter" Key

In non-GitHub mode, I'd like to have a "soft enter" key (maybe Shift-Return?) that just inserts an end-of-line and (optionally) an indent depending on the just-terminated line.

This soft enter key should not trigger any other "make this line similar to the one above" actions, such as inserting a new bullet or number in a list.

If this behaviour could be triggered automatically when reaching a certain column (same as used in Format operations), that would be an extra bonus.

Alternatively, I'd also be happy with a "format" feature that just re-formats a certain section, say, everything around the current line up to the nearest blank lines above and below.
