Consider another name for the Stenokey
Hey there,
Mirabai pointed out your project on the Plover Discord and I think we're pretty excited about it, it's looking like an awesome low-cost entry into the steno world for DIYers.
I want to suggest considering changing to a more unique name. As a community we're getting into an issue now where new community members get confused by the Stenoboard, Stenomod, Stenosaurus, and other similarly named projects. I think the Stenokey, being a homophone to "steno key" will suffer the same fate.
The one machine in our ecosystem that doesn't have this problem is the SOFT/HRUF (soft love) which is so far out of this world that it's hard to forget.
I think it could be reasonable to consider another name for the Stenokey in order to help it stand out amongst the competition.
Brainstorming:
- DIY, 34 keys, court reporting, programming, arduino, resin, printing, stenography, plover, affordable, portable, slate
- ST34 (#STPH is 1234 in Steno, 34 keys)
- Chordbook
- IATB: "It's about time" board.
- Fineboard
- Pocketbrief
- The B100 Steno Machine (below $100)
Another one: "Stoinky" which would be a phonetic approximation to the raw steno for writing "steno key" in Plover: STOEUPB/KAOE
.
I've also just learned that Stenokey is the name of the Bulgarian chorded input system
Just posted a link to Mirabai's review on my Facebook wall ... looks like it's getting some serious interest from court reporters!
