Extreme audio latency
Environment
Windows build number: [run `[Environment]::OSVersion` for powershell, or `ver` for cmd] Win 11 21H2 (22000.348)
Your Distribution version: [On Debian or Ubuntu run `lsb_release -r` in WSL] Debian 11 Bullseye
Your WSLg version: [Open 'Apps and Features' and check the version of 'Windows Subsystem for Linux GUI app support', e.g: 0.2.3.13] 1.0.26
Steps to reproduce
- Install sox:
apt install sox - Loopback input to output:
sox -q -d -d - Speak or make sounds into the microphone.
Expected behavior
Sounds are echoed back near instantly.
Actual behavior
Sounds are echoed back sometimes up to ten seconds later, including several seconds of no audio. Seems like audio only starts once a buffer has reached a certain (much too large) size?
Additional context
Can also reproduce sometimes with Emacspeak (with playback only) though the sox test case is more minimal and occurs more regularly.

Any updates on this?
audio device init also takes ages (sometimes).
i'm working on a game in wsl and it sometimes gets stuck on the loading screen for like 2 minutes acquiring an audio device handle
After that, the sound is weird and delayed by 5-15 seconds
I'm going to awkwardly report that this issue - including with Emacspeak - remains, and I'm willing to try and pull logs if there're good sources for them
