Feature Request: Mobile-Friendly Layout for vscode.dev

Open HERALDEXX opened this issue 5 months ago • 2 comments

Hey team — just wanted to flag a growing need. A lot of developers (especially students, travelers, and mobile-first users) code on their phones or tablets. VS Code in browser (vscode.dev) is usable, but the layout shrinks everything and isn’t touch-optimized.

Would love to see a mobile-friendly mode — even basic tweaks like:

  • Larger touch targets
  • Resizable UI panels
  • Swipe-based sidebar toggling
  • Optional “minimal” layout for small screens

More and more developers are coding on the go, and a lightweight VS Code UX would be game-changing.

Thanks!

now with vibe coding being a daily practice, and with products like copilot coding agent and spark, it is really needed to use vs code from mobile, even from small factor screens.

This is because there is a tendency to avoid setting up local environments (Code spaces and dev containers) , avoid management of infrastructure in the development lifecycle (serverless), and focusing more in feature implementation and code review

How can the Open source community help to make this reality?
