Chat window is not preserved when cloning a repo

I have VS Code open with the chat panel visible and selected to "Clone a repository" from the welcome screen and then selected to "Open" the repo in current window once the repo opened the chat panel disappeared.

I also ran through the same scenario leveraging agent mode to clone the repo in which I selected to open it in the same window and the chat panel disappeared as well as the chat history of me cloning the repo.

Can we get the state to preserve in this scenario?
