Steps to Reproduce:

1. Download an extension and add it manually (not from the marketplace)
2. Observe that most extensions do not function as expected or fail to work
3. This behavior is experienced with multiple different extensions

Expected: Manually added extensions should work the same as those installed from the marketplace, or clear documentation should be provided if there are limitations.

I assume you're installing via the .vsix file where are you getting the file from? could it be a problem with the 3rd party website?
