[Feature Request] Add Progress Indicator and Control Options for Remote Workspace Indexing

Open iwangbowen opened this issue 10 months ago • 2 comments

Type: Feature Request

Feature Request

When running "GitHub Copilot: Build Remote Workspace Index" command, we need better visibility and control over the indexing process.

Current Behavior

  • Only shows "Building remote workspace index" in the status bar
  • No indication of progress or estimated time remaining
  • No way to pause or cancel the operation
  • For large workspaces, the indexing process can take a long time without any feedback

Proposed Features

  1. Progress Indicator:

    • Add a progress bar or percentage indicator
    • Show the number of files processed / total files
    • Display estimated time remaining
  2. Control Options:

    • Add ability to pause/resume indexing
    • Add ability to cancel the operation
    • Show detailed progress in the Output panel (optional)

Benefits

  • Better user experience with clear visibility of the indexing progress
  • Ability to manage system resources by controlling the indexing process
  • Improved productivity by allowing users to make informed decisions about timing of indexing operations
