[feature] Introducing VS Code for Tablets: Empowering Mobile Development
Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. I find VS Code to be an incredibly versatile and excellent tool. However, there's something I believe is crucially missing: a mobile version of VS Code. While VS Code is available for all platforms, it is not available for mobile platforms. For instance, VS Code can connect to WSL and function like a server, but on mobile platforms, one has to use the web version, which is good but not sufficient. I believe having a native app for Android tablets and iPads would be highly beneficial.
Describe the solution you'd like I would love to see VS Code available for Android tablets and iPads, potentially even as a server that can connect to Windows. This would make it possible for people to develop without needing a laptop. With tablets now being 13 inches or more, which is the size of a typical laptop, and also supporting Bluetooth keyboards, it would be fantastic to have VS Code available on these devices.
Describe alternatives you've considered Currently, I am using a dual-boot setup with both Windows 11 and Ubuntu installed. For development, I switch to Linux. While this works, it requires constant restarting, which disrupts my workflow. I've tried using the web version of VS Code on mobile, but it lacks the stability and features of a full desktop environment.
Additional context Having VS Code on tablets would democratize development, making it accessible to all ages. It would be great for optimizing for ARM processors as well, further promoting migration to these chips. Developers could set up different machines for each project module, using simple devices like tablets for web development without the need for multiple laptops or desktops. This would improve mobile tool efficiency, eliminating the need for a stable internet connection for development.
Additionally, integrating VS Code on iPads or Android tablets would streamline development workflows, enabling on-the-go coding with a familiar, powerful tool. This would also reduce dependency on high-performance laptops for development tasks, making it easier to code anytime, anywhere. By leveraging the power of tablets, VS Code could become a more universal tool, bridging the gap between mobile and desktop development environments.
