Syntax highlighting broken for Python after updating to 1.80.0

Does this issue occur when all extensions are disabled?: Yes

  • VS Code Version: Version: 1.80.0 (user setup)
  • OS Version: Windows_NT x64 10.0.19045

Steps to Reproduce:

After the latest update, the syntax highlighting is broken for Python. I tried reverting to older extension releases or disabling them but the issue persisted.
