Cannot add my github account

Open HabibaaFarid opened this issue 1 year ago • 3 comments

Hello, Today I faced an issue that kept requiring me to sign in to sync setting while I was already signed in with my github account, I kept authorizing and vscode asks to restart to update and kept going in this loop. I uninstalled vscode then reinstalled it and since then whenever I try to add an account it takes me to microsoft login and not github as it used to and I can't sign in to my github account through vscode and I couldn't find any help online

Hello guys!!! It would be helpful if you could provide me with more information, such as the type of error that appears or the message displayed in your VSCode...

Here are some suggestions that might help resolve your issue:

Clear VS Code's authentication cache: You can do this by opening the Preferences: Open User Settings command and searching for Accounts: Authentication Session. Click on Clear All Authentication Sessions and try signing in again.

Check sync settings: Make sure the Settings Sync: Enable option is turned on. If it's turned off, turn it on and try signing in again.

Turn sync off and on again: Sometimes, turning sync off and then back on can resolve connection issues. You can do this via the Settings Sync: Turn off command and then Settings Sync: Turn On.

Check extensions: Some extensions might interfere with settings sync. Try disabling all extensions to see if the issue persists.

I hope this helps! If the issue continues, please provide more details or any error messages you're seeing.

I hope these suggestions can help you guys! See ya!

@Andrehlb 's solution worked for me.

I linked a Microsoft account first, but I wanted to link GitHub instead. Even after signing off MS, when signing in VS Code would keep redirecting me to Microsoft directly without prompting the Github/Microsoft choice.

Solved it by signing back in to the Microsoft account, then turning off sync, also accepting to empty the sync cache when prompted, and then turning sync back on you will be prompted the GH/MS choice again.

Hope this helps, also thanks Andrehlb!
