Shell windows show up after selecting kernel for jupyter notebook on Windows

Open Sunlight-zero opened this issue 1 year ago • 2 comments

Issue Type: Bug

Behaviour

Expected vs. Actual

Expected behavior: No isolated shell windows should show up during activation. Actual: For some environments (not all), each time I select the kernel in the top-right of vscode-jupyter, some shell windows will show up and then disappear suddenly.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Install Python and Jupyter Extension, and Configure miniforge
  2. Install a new conda environment. Here I install by command mamba create -n space python=3.9 sunpy numpy matplotlib scipy opencv
  3. Create a new .ipynb file, and choose space on the top right.

Demonstration

black shell windows pop up

Notation

I have notice that vscode-python #20836 mentioned the similar problem. But this still leaves unsolved when I change the Python extension to Preview version.

Please could you enable logging as follows:

  • Open settings & go into Jupyter->Logging
  • Change the value to verbose
  • Reload VS Code,
  • Attempt to repro the issue & then copy the output from the Jupyter output panel.

Please can you add the following setting (to disable auto start), Once done, reload VS Code and try to replicate the issue. Please do not run a cell. Screenshot 2024-05-01 at 15 21 41

I suspect this is caused by the Python extension, but would like to verify a few things first.
