There is an option in vscode by right clicking on tab to open editor in New window. A very useful feature for multi-monitor and multi-mode setups and I'm using it a lot.

Currently the window opens but an error message is displayed

Yeah, I would really like it a lot. Seems like it is happening with only certain kind of windows.
