Originally posted by nstein-gpjoule June 8, 2023 I'm running Jupyter inside of WSL2 and set the Jupyter-Extension up to connect to this server, unfortunately the password is not stored and every time I open a new window I'm greeted with this dialog:

Is it possible to store the password for remote connections?

could we plz stop repeating this meaningless +1? someone could be subscribing to this issue really hoping for this feature while you fill their inboxes with meaningless +1s.

Use the damn upvote emoji...

I also apologize in advance for anyone annoyed by this comment.

@DonJayamanne Why is issue #14213 closed? I am still getting this every time I open VS Code. I would not say it's a duplicate of this issue as jupyter should not need any password without a kernel.

That by design, we always fetch kernels as its not possible to determine whether you last used a kernel for a notebook or not. Hence they must be fetched an the corresponding controllers need to be create,

Its a little difficult to explain, and it has been explained here https://github.com/microsoft/vscode-jupyter/issues/14213#issuecomment-1698267957
