sync github copilot chat history across devices
I really wish it were possible to sync copilot chat histories across devices, ex: I use a laptop on the go and a desktop at home. I usually keep both devices lock-step via GitHub but it sucks that the chat history is different on both devices. I can usually enter in the same prompt to get a similar answer but it just seems counter intuitive that the chats do not sync by default, or there is not at least an option to sync the chats. Thanks
It would be sufficient to have a global chat view in order to navigate history chats from different devices.
The GitHub mobile and web apps offer global synchronization. Why isn’t this a default feature for GitHub Copilot, especially considering that other AI companies provide global sync for conversations?
Assigning to @sandy081 since it would be cool if settings sync takes care of this?
Unassigning myself. Syncing state is supported by Settings Sync. It is up to the owner of the state to sync or not.
@roblourens then this might a simple opt-in?
Chat history is workspace-specific, so it doesn't make sense to sync IMO. It can also be a substantial amount of data so I need to move it out of the storage service anyway.
So, to confirm, is there no cross-platform sync yet?
This is not yet supported.
Trialling Pro and surprised this feature is missing. Cross-device history sync seems essential for users working across multiple computers and its absence may be a dealbreaker.
I need this feature, because I often start a Ai chat on my smartphone / iPhone and then continue it on my MacBook over the day. But with Copilot that pain, because I have to copy each single message from the chat to my MacBook / VsCode Editor.
Would be great when we could get a simple export at least until we get a complete sync like OpenAi, or Anthropic it has with their iOS Apps and MacOS App.
I'm also wondering how this is not a feature yet. It seems so basic and essential, initially I thought I was doing something wrong until I found out this is actually not supportet (yet, hopfully?).
It would make alot of sense to have the chat history sync across devices in vscode for each project, this would be really useful.
Following this as well. Especially with the pro plan it should be supported. I often also work on issues/projects on multiple devices and continuing on others, so it's very cumbersome to have to restart the project context all over again.
Kinda surprised that this was not implemented before Copilot got released.
Going to start following this. Would love this to be implemented
+1 following
it should be an available feature +1
+1 following!
+1 surprising that this is not a thing yet
This has to be a feature. It would allow for software work on the move, that can then be synced later. Terrible this isn't a feature already
Seems like an incredible oversight to not have this as a feature.
I am also facing same problem that cannot sync the copilot chats across the devices. There is no ways to sync?
Absolutely a necessary feature
This is a necessary feature. I just realized this is not available after purchasing the PRO. What's the meaning of pro chat then???? If you cannot have a simple sync of your conversations between devices. Now I had to copy and paste from my mobile to Notepad, then to the web, and then to PC GitHub Copilot.
Add it 1+
Yes, 1+
I also think this feature is missing and should be prioritized.
please bring this feature i have to work on both personal and office laptop so it'll be really awesome to the chat sync between devices is there any way we can do it manually though like bringing some sort folder or file to the other device?
+1 would love to have this feature
+1 for sync chat feature
+1 would incredibly helpful to switch from desktop to laptop while chat history and context get synced
