can't sign in Github Copilot in VS Code when default browser is Chrome

When Chrome is the default browser, the GitHub Copilot sign in protocol doesn't succeed. It never pops up a login window and the logs are the following. But as soon as I change the default browser to Edge, then sign in works fine:

@furmangg are you still seeing this? I am not able to repro. Chrome works just fine.

How can I help debug if this is what's causing me trouble too?

When select this found choice, nothing happens. No browser opens. Nothing.
