I tried your dockerfile and it built the image without error. You may encounter a connection issue. Please check your VM network setting and proxy if you are using it.

The issue resolved itself after ~15 minutes. But I ran into the issue locally and on CircleCI so it seems like it's a transient problem on the Microsoft side. I've run into a few transient issues with this particular build pipeline, all with Failed to fetch https://packages.microsoft.com/debian/9/prod/dists/stretch/InRelease and various errors which resolve themselves if I wait a few hours and try again. I'm not versed well enough on apt to be able to debug further but it seems like there's some issue with these indexes.
Here's another example of a similar issue I faced last week. It also resolved itself after an hour or so.

I'm having the same problem. But only Debian stretch is affected, Debian buster seems to work
This issue affects many products, I faced it when our docker image failed to build because of issues with PowerShell installation (we used this ugly script https://github.com/PowerShell/PowerShell/blob/a96b4c0/tools/install-powershell.sh on debian)
I temporary solved the problem as follows:
curl -LsSo pwsh.deb https://github.com/PowerShell/PowerShell/releases/download/v6.2.3/powershell_6.2.3-1.debian.9_amd64.deb && dpkg -i pwsh.deb && apt-get install -f && rm pwsh.deb
I'm also having the same problem right now, hope it will fix itself during the day
For dev purpose temporary switched to Debian 10 sources

After reading your message I've double checked the installation instruction here and it seems that the right URL is https://packages.microsoft.com/repos/code and NOT https://packages.microsoft.com/repos/vscode (as it used to be)

Ooooooh snap, this is a current issue? I thought it was something wrong with my Ubuntu setup.
What do we do? Do we wait? Do we need to change a config?
https://packages.microsoft.com/repos/vscode still works tho (I don’t have issue anymore so I guess it’s fixed… until it breaks again?). I wonder why I have this URL instead of the new one since I set up this computer in mid-2021, though.
