Just wanted to corroborate that I have seen this issue on Windows App SDK 1.5.7 when running (debugging) my packaged .NET 8 WinUI 3 app for the second time after cloning my project onto a workstation. This crash happened after approximately one second of the app window spawning (with no XAML elements showing). I couldn't reproduce it after the crash.

Is there any solution or workaround?
Installing different versions of Windows App SDK doesn't help.
I'd really love to know more about this, as I've just started writing a WinUI3 application that experiences seemingly random crashes with this exception. I've felt crazy trying to track this down. Is there a way I can better capture these exceptions or other unhandled exceptions? I started blaming the SDK, but I just hate resorting to blaming my tools. I feel a little less crazy seeing others running into this same issue.
Hi All any update on this issue i am also facing the same??
For me, the installation of these packages solved the issue, not sure which one is actually needed (seems like the last one):
- Microsoft.DotNet.DesktopRuntime.9
- Microsoft.EdgeWebView2Runtime
- Microsoft.VCRedist.2015+.x64
Run winget install packageNameHere to install the package

@emaschino I have that version and it is not working. Did you install the update on the machine that you are building the application from? Or did installing it on the machine you are running the application from fix the problem?
@DanielGlick The PC where I was experiencing the issue was updated. But I didn't develop the faulting app: WidgetBoard.exe is Windows 11's integrated Widgets ;-)
I figured out how to fix this crash in my case (.Net 9, WinUI 3, App SDK 1.7). It turned out I wasn't copying assets to the publish folder. Without the assets the app would crash on startup in CoreMessagingXP.dll. There was no indication at all the crash was related to trying to load resources it couldn't find.
If you're interested in reproducing the crash, you can download my release from here (https://github.com/swax/WallTrek), delete the assets folder, and the app should crash on startup.
I changed some loading logic to Parallel.ForEachAsync and this error started to show up; Doesn't happen in debug / release. just after publish.. any advice how to troubleshoot?
It's just part and parcel of using a Microsoft deprecated CPM based operating system in 2025. The solution is easy, get a Chromebook and use Linux app.
I've had the same issue reported by a customer using Windows 10 when trying to access features in my app that use SkiaSharp. According to him, installing Microsoft.VCRedist.2015+.x64 as suggested above resolved the issue.
