Invitations should open a new window

Open jennings opened this issue 4 years ago • 3 comments

My coworkers often try to use the "Invite Contact" feature to start a live share session with me, but accepting the invitation would reuse my current VSCode window. If I accept the invitation, I lose my place in whatever workspace I'm in.

Currently, both options I know of add friction to starting a session:

  1. Open a new window, then ask them to invite me again.
  2. Ask them to send a URL instead of using "Invite Contact".

When accepting an invitation, I would like one of the following options because they allow the invitee to resolve the problem themselves:

  1. Always open invitations in a new window.
  2. A button to "Accept in New Window".
  3. If I open a new window manually after receiving an invitation, show the invitation notification so I can accept it.

Accepting an invite from a link trashes the current workspace too. If you forget to open a fresh window before clicking. 😢

Since GitHub issues seems to be the place for feature requests for this project, I don't think this should be closed unless the team decides they won't do this feature.

It's not a complete deal breaker for me, but it is really annoying that it takes over my current work when I go to help a coworker with their code. And then when it ends I'm left with a blank window trying to figure out what I was doing before. I lose focus and waste time because of it. At least if it remembered to reopen the project I had open before the live share session started it wouldn't be as bad.
