Questionably high CPU usage

Open roxk opened this issue 1 year ago • 3 comments

Dev Home version

0.137.141.0

Windows build number

22624.1755

Other software

No response

Steps to reproduce the bug

  1. Add all 4 core widgets excluding SSH
  2. Add 4 github widgets

Expected result

Low CPU usage.

Actual result

Observe relatively high CPU usage when other monitoring tools use way less resources

image

Note that without any widget, the CPU usage is around 1.4. That is still higher than expected. For reference, task manager in the above screenshot is using ~0.9% CPU.

Included System Information

CPU: 5800X GPU: 6800XT RAM: 16GB (timing etc probably irrelevant...)

Included Extensions Information

No response

Same problem for me on windows 11, with 0.11 version devhome consumes up to 10% of cpu, even when closed.

Nothing changed with 0.13 version, still consumes 5-15% even after closing: image

I see high "CoreWidgetProvider" CPU usage on 0.1401.505.0. My laptop was running steady at 6% CPU from this process, and that is enough to keep the machine hot (because it keeps the CPU frequency/voltage high). The laptop fan slowed down a few seconds after killing CoreWidgetProvider (via "end task" in Task Manager), so it's obviously the sole source of the problem. I'm really excited about this tool, but I can't recommend it to the rest of my development team until it allows machines to properly idle.
