Wrong icon of calculator

Open bflmpsvz opened this issue 1 year ago • 2 comments

Both my Windows 10 and Windows 11 show a confusing icon of the calculator when I want to bring its window to the foreground by Alt-Tab.

Can I do anything with this?

I have set HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer DWORD AltTabSettings 1 to show small icons. But all other icons are O.K., so why not the Calculator?

To see the legacy Alt-Tab list, from the W10 to the W11 23H2 it was also possible, next to change AltTabSettings in registers, use "press and hold one Alt - hit the other Alt - Tab". Many Microsoft apps have a wrong icon in the legacy Alt-Tab list. Calculator, Media player, Camera, Remote Desktop, etc.:

Microsoft's solution is to disable this feature completely :-( . In W11 24H2 this legacy Alt-Tab list does not work at all.

There are a few reasons:

  1. When any app's binary is opened in the WindowsApps folder, it always has a folder - it may be Assets, Images or any folder inside it, and they are just PNGs (e.g. [email protected]). Windows 10/11 support this type of UWP icon really well, but basically, the app (the ".exe" file) has no icon at all.
  2. You are using the Win32 Alt+Tab window switcher, which does not support PNG icons (see 1). Maybe your computer does not have the full requirements to use the normal window switcher, or you have a setting set (but I can't validate because this type only works in Safe Mode and other compatibility modes and judging by your screenshots, you are using the normal mode).

Unfortunately, I can't screenshot it, so I scribbled it to showcase this feature. The top-left icon has the Calculator icon.

PS: Your hotkey doesn't work for me and I'm not going to risk my PC for Registry edits. Please don't edit the Registry.
