Would like Manage Server be automatic

Open rfalanga opened this issue 7 years ago • 1 comments

  • SQL Operations Studio Version: 0.23.6

Steps to Reproduce: I've found that when I get into SqlOps and select a server, nothing comes up in the main pane. I think it would be better if the manage server would come up automatically at this point. It took me quick a while to learn that I could right-mouse button click and bring it up. Until then, I thought that SqlOps was basically useless. Put differently, doing a right-mouse button clicking on a server in the Servers pane is not easily discoverable.

We've discussed a bit about have a default "On Connection" setting to configure what to do when a default connection is established in Object Explorer. The settings would be something like "None", "Manage", or "Query".

The current design is if the connection is established by expanding the server node then the action would be none since the assumption was the user was trying to browse the object hierarchy. If the connection was established through double-click then the Manage dashboard would display since the double-click expressed a default action intent.

We also considered displaying '...' somewhere in the node label when a node is hovered to make the context menu more discoverable.

I'll put this issue on the backlog to consider in the next UX review in this area.
