Date only as Categorical instead of Numeric

Date strings are parsed correctly. However they seem to be only interpreted as categorical.

As a consequence of having larger datasets, the axis that is used for the date is messed up by date labels (one for each data-point).

I'd like to see a date/datetime being interpreted as a numeric variable instead, where labels are automatically aligned (or can be set with a given step size).
