Description

JurisSmart is a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) web application designed to provide concise and accurate legal information about Intellectual Property (IP) law. The app leverages Azure OpenAI and Azure Cognitive Search to deliver relevant, citation-backed responses by retrieving data from trusted legal sources across Nigeria, the USA, and the UK.

Data Sources:

I used a collection of legal documents including:

• Copyright, trademark, design and patent laws from Nigeria, the USA, and the UK.
• Official documents from the government website like the Copyright Act 2023 Final Publication (Nigeria), Consolidated Patent Law (US), and Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 (UK)
• Articles from the International Comparative Legal Guides (ICLG), providing global insights into IP law trends.

Modifications:

Yes, I made additional modifications by adding indexing to the data ingestion process. This helps to streamline the retrieval of relevant legal texts from large datasets, ensuring faster and more efficient responses from the app and I incorporated a citation system that links directly to original legal texts.

Target Audience:

• Lawyers and legal professionals looking for quick access to IP law references.
• Students studying law or anyone needing reliable IP law insights.
• Businesses seeking clarity on legal regulations to protect intellectual property rights.

Future Plans:

My team and I will keep the app deployed and potentially take it to the Microsoft for Startup Founders Hub to make it more better and expand its reach. Additionally, I plan to extend the app to more jurisdictions and broaden its coverage to include other areas of law, providing more comprehensive legal support across multiple domains.
