Feasibility of an iOS compatible version of the Unity plugin?

Open tonetechnician opened this issue 3 years ago • 2 comments

Hey there,

It's great to see this project getting compatibility with all these different platforms. I was curious if there're any sights of an iOS version of the Unity plugin on the Project Acoustics road map?

I've been working on some mixed reality experiences in iOS and am noticing a clear lack of spatial audio tools for iOS. I believe Project Acoustics would be an awesome tool to enhance some of these experiences!

ToneTechnician,

It's great to hear that you like Project Acoustics and see value in support for iOS. This support is something that we've contemplated and would like to support in the future. Our recent focus has been helping studios integrate the technology into their console titles as that is where most of the customer signal has been. Sorry, we don't really have an ETA on when we'll be able to provide iOS support. We do have Android support if that is an option for you to explore.

Thanks, Noel Cross

Thanks for the response @NoelCross. Great to hear that this has been contemplated at the very least! I'll defs keep a lookout here for any updates that may come. It definitely feels like there's a lack of augmented + mixed reality audio/visual experiences and I'd defs opt for Project Acoustics approach to baking in order to achieve better spatial audio fidelity on mobile. I have looked at Steam Audio as an alternative but sadly they also seem to omit iOS. I may look into the Android support but unfortunately our team primarily use iOS because Apple ARKit seems be more stable across devices, and the newly integrated LIDAR etc.. has been a real game changer for AR. I've often thought a mixture of machine learnt material + object tagging, AR and Project Acoustics approach to generating runtime-tweakable convolutions based on known geometry could be quite a fun thing to work with.

Thanks for feedback re consoles, does make sense there would be more take there. I wish you guys the best for getting it in a good place, and look forward to see more Project Acoustic powered titles out there! Keep up the great work!
