Sony PlayStation 5 support?
Hi all,
I believe there has already been a thread on the topic of platform support for Project Acoustics so my apologies for resurfacing, but I did want to get clarity on the expected support for the PlayStation 5 as it was not mentioned in that thread.
It appears that the PS5 is not currently supported for the PA version available from the Unreal marketplace (please correct me if Im wrong) so I wanted to ask about any potential timeline for supporting it.
Thanks in advance!
@dredlime The Project Acoustics code is written in a cross-platform manner, so it is technically possible get it working on PlayStation 5. We don't have access to the Playstation SDK and we wouldn't be authorized to ship binaries for that closed platform. We only support the open platforms of Windows and Android with the Unreal marketplace offering.
Thanks for the response Noel! Perhaps my line of questioning becomes more of a legality discussion at this point? Admittedly, I am out of my wheelhouse here, but would like to thoroughly explore the viability and implications of multi-platform development with the PA tool before I start any testing in earnest.
Can you advise on any next steps here communication-wise? Or is this more or less where the buck stops as far as Microsoft is concerned? (Totally understandable if that is the case, just trying to do due diligence here.)
@dredlime For a time, our team supported source code access to the project which would have allowed a licensee to build the code for target console platforms. With some leadership changes, this pilot program is something that we no longer support as we are investigating the viability of a fully supported commercial offering. For now, our public offerings are limited to the open platforms that I mentioned before. Perhaps this policy will change in the future, but for now, this is the current status.
Thanks Noel, much appreciated!
