Crop and Lock on Browser Content

Open codefoster opened this issue 3 weeks ago • 3 comments

Description of the new feature / enhancement

I'd like to use Crop and Lock on web content. My actual use case is to keep an active view of a stock chart in the forefront. It doesn't work though because my browser doesn't update pages when they're in the background, so the image in my Crop and Lock window freezes. I'm not sure if there's something that can be done in PowerToys to fix this.

Scenario when this would be used?

My actual use case is to keep an active view of a stock chart from the browser in the forefront.

Hi @codefoster. This sounds like something you could use Always On Top for:

  1. Enable Always on Top via Settings
Image
  1. Click on your browser window
  2. Press Win+Ctrl+T to pin the window to the top. The border will change and a sound will indicate that the window will be kept in the foreground

If this doesn't work for you, there are browser extensions which will auto-refresh a page on a set interval, even if the window isn't in the foreground.

Please let us know if either of these approaches work for you.

Thank you, @daverayment. The latter may be of some use. The former would not because my use case is that I do not want to spend the screen real estate on the whole browser. I only want one little bit of information... just the last few candles on a stock chart. I want to use Crop and Lock to grab that small square and keep just that at the forefront. It works great except for the fact that the content goes stale when the browser goes behind.

Actually, come to think of it, the browser extension won't help either. It wouldn't do to refresh the whole browser when I'm just looking to see the chart update which normally is being done via websockets I guess. Thank you anyway.
