Lack of parity between Start and Command Palette

Open Normanator opened this issue 1 month ago • 5 comments

Microsoft PowerToys version

0.93.0

Installation method

Microsoft Store

Area(s) with issue?

Command Palette

Steps to reproduce

I have a Dygma keyboard with a key mapping/macro app called Bazecor installed via their website. Launching Cmd Palette, searching for the "Baze", all I find is their setup app. The Windows Start menu finds it just fine.

I don't know if Cmd Pal just missed a cue to refresh its sources (if so, feature-request to explicitly rescan/reindex) or if the program installed in some way invisible to Cmd Pal. (alt feature req.: If I give the full-path to the app, e.g. C:\Users\normb\AppData\Local\bazecor\Bazecor.exe, and launch it successfully, Cmd Pal should learn of its existence and index that explicit path.)

✔️ Expected Behavior

Parity (or superset in Cmd Pal's favor) between the native and Power Toys launcher 'find' behavior.

❌ Actual Behavior

Command Palette only surfaced the setup app, not the installed app, even after I told it where to find it via the search bar.

Installed from Bazecor-1.7.0-Setup.exe. Setup created shortcuts in standard locations:

  • C:\Users%username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Dygma Lab S.L
  • C:\Users%username%\Desktop

CmdPal first picked up the one on the desktop, but is able to pick both of them:

Hi there!

We need a bit more information to really debug this issue. Can you add a "Report Bug" zip file here? You right click on our system tray icon and just go to report bug. Then drag the zipfile from your desktop onto the GitHub comment box in this issue. Thanks!
Report Bug

I've found that I have to restart Command Palette to see recent additions to the Start Menu, even though the actual Start Menu search sees them (showing that the Windows index is up to date).
