Command palette on H-pattern display layout

Open TargetCrafter opened this issue 7 months ago • 1 comments

Microsoft PowerToys version

0.91.0

Installation method

WinGet

Area(s) with issue?

Command Palette

Steps to reproduce

I have a triple-screen setup in an H-pattern as you can see below:

Image

With Powertoys Run, the window opens nicely on the center screen:

But when I switch to Command Palette, the window takes on the aspect ratio, or at least the height of my vertical screens:

✔️ Expected Behavior

I expect the window to be sized properly, as seen when using a single, horizontal display:

❌ Actual Behavior

To me it's quite random, in most cases it would stay the size I've made it to be, but sometimes it would change itself to a much larger size, both horizontally and vertically, not sure what triggered it.

Can confirm this happens on 2-monitor, vertical setups also. When summoned on the biggest screen, the palette window will take the whole screen; whereas on the smaller one, the palette window will spill offscreen. I feel like this could be a DPI issue, as my smallest screen is way more pixel dense than the top one. However, W11's Snipping Tool also seem to be confused about the size of my desktop. Could it be an issue with Windows App SDK?

It seems to be working for me now, perhaps after the latest update? @AkazaRenn @byrax15 Is it fixed for you too?

Mostly. The size of the palette is fixed now, although there is still an issue with the palette's position: if the palette is requested to open on a different monitor than the one it was last opened, the palette will be off center. If then reopened on the same monitor, the palette will then be centered until next monitor change.

Any fix on this?

@byrax15 / @J-Ciro / @AkazaRenn, after updating to the latest version of PowerToys are you still seeing this?

Not experiencing this specific issue anymore on v0.95.1.

Hi @michaeljolley, the palette size issue as initially reported is fixed for me too. The other problem i reported i a follow-up comment (cited below) is still present.

The follow up problem is not fixed for me as of v0.95.1, but it is in no way as disruptive as the first. Should it be moved to another issue, so as to close this one?

@byrax15 I think that would be a good idea. Future me triaging issues thanks you. 😄
