Powertoys not registering as an app

Open TheBestWebsite opened this issue 7 months ago • 5 comments

Microsoft PowerToys version

0.91.0

Installation method

WinGet

Area(s) with issue?

General

Steps to reproduce

  1. Go to Settings (As in, general windows settings) > Apps > Installed Apps
  2. Search for PowerToys
  3. Next steps apply only if you installed from WinGet - I have no idea what happens otherwise
  4. Go to a terminal that works with WinGet in your favorite terminal emulator.
  5. Type in "winget list --exact --id Microsoft.Powertoys" (if I got the command parameters wrong, please let me know, but even a general "winget list" produces the behaivior)

✔️ Expected Behavior

In both step 2 and step 6, you should see an entry for PowerToys.

❌ Actual Behavior

No entry for PowerToys in settings:

No entry for PowerToys in WinGet:

Additional Information

Windows 11 Pro Insider Preview Version 24H2

There still is a Start Menu shortcut, aka I can still open it. It just doesn't recognize the fact that this is an app.

Other Software

WinGet version v1.11.320-preview

Quick side question - how do I uninstall powertoys now?

TheBestWebsite avatar May 16 '25 01:05 TheBestWebsite

/bugreport And, saw you leave comment in other issue, you mean you have an older version of cmdpal?

Do you see any result with this winget command? winget list --name PowerToys

The id for Powertoys seems not as what you put in the description, but the "name" will have powertoys. It should not related to issues #39476 since it is only for command palette, not powertoys itself.

It seems that reinstalling PT from WinGet did the trick. Don't know why though. I'm confused on whether to close this issue or leave it open just in case - advice please?

Gonna reply to everything just in case:

Hi there! We need a bit more information to really debug this issue. Can you add a "Report Bug" zip file here?

Do you see any result with this winget command? winget list --name PowerToys

I just did a "winget list" with no thing else, and there were no entries for PowerToys.

It should not related to issues https://github.com/microsoft/PowerToys/issues/39476 since it is only for command palette, not powertoys itself.

Oh, good point. Edited that part out.

And, saw you leave comment in other issue, you mean you have an older version of cmdpal?

I meant that I had updated from PT 0.90.1, and I still had CmdPal v0.1.1.0. Based on zadjii's screenshots, I believe the newest version is v0.2.0.0, but that did not come with the update of PT. yeelam mentioned it on #39495. Probably a good idea to move any comments over there.

Heads up - this is from after I reinstalled PT, so this may not be very useful. I can't go back to the previous configuration (because I don't know what changed), so I can't give you the file for then.

Deciding to close because this is unlikely to be reproduced for reasons stated above.
