Command Palette CmdPal high memory upon launch only reduced by typing and closing

Open DarthZyll opened this issue 7 months ago • 1 comments

Microsoft PowerToys version

0.91.0

Installation method

WinGet

Area(s) with issue?

Command Palette

Steps to reproduce

Upon launching Powertoys (fresh computer reboot), memory utilization of CmdPal.UI is high around 726MB (viewed in Task Manager).

Using the win-alt-space key combo to open and close Command Palette does not impact the memory utilization. However, launching, typing something in the text box immediately reduces memory utilization down to 230MB.

It takes a few attempts to see memory drop, but if you never type in the text box, CmdPal.UI memory remains high, it appears that explicitly using the app triggers a memory cleanup of approximately 70%

✔️ Expected Behavior

Memory utilization should be optimized in Command Palette without needing special key combinations.

❌ Actual Behavior

Memory utilization remains high if its not used

Can confirm have the same issue. Just did what the OP said and opened it and typed and memory went down to 256MB from 1GB.

Seeing the same issue in Version 0.91.1, having 790 MB memory usage before interacting with the launcher, went down to 197 MB once I typed.

I'm encountering similar with it approaching 1GB memory usage, but it never drops even after a few attempts at typing something.

Still happening in 0.92.1

@DarthZyll and others, are you still encountering this with 0.93 or higher? We've made some perf improvements in 0.93, and I was wondering if you are seeing some of those gains too!

i have certainly seen a big improvement for a while now. Memory usage never spikes up to the 700MB levels, its more consistently down around 250MB which is acceptable, and the sudden changes before and after typing in the text field no longer exist. I'd say the issue has been resolved.

I've just updated PT but I haven't had this problem in some time now.
