"Run at startup" setting not saving

Open SecondBrekfast opened this issue 8 months ago • 4 comments

Microsoft PowerToys version

0.90.1

Installation method

Microsoft Store

Area(s) with issue?

General

Steps to reproduce

  1. Launch PowerToys.
  2. Navigate to General settings.
  3. Enable "Run at startup".
  4. Restart PowerToys OR Windows.
  5. "Run at startup" switch reverts to the disabled position and doesn't launch on Windows startup.

✔️ Expected Behavior

The "Run at startup" switch should save its state after PowerToys restart and/or Windows is restarted.

❌ Actual Behavior

The "Run at startup" switch in the PowerToys General settings pane will revert to the disabled position after closing and re-launching PowerToys. This means that on Windows startup, PowerToys won't launch unless manually added to the shell:startup folder. In this case, it will launch on startup but the "Run at startup" switch in PowerToys settings will still be disabled.

@SecondBrekfast My side is good now, can't repro, I will check in logs to capture more error when setting the start up task. #39798

Would you open "Task Schedular", and you change the startup setting to be enabled, can you see the task for auto start? Image

@vanzue it seems the problem might be related to my Task Scheduler. When I open it I receive an error notification, "An internal error occurred". Not too sure how this happened or how to resolve it without having to reinstall windows. I've tried running SFC, DISM and even "Fix problems using Windows Update" but none have resolved the issue. At this stage it seems I might have to reinstall Windows. Do you have any advanced troubleshooting tips that might help before I'm forced to wipe my system?

@vanzue I ended up reinstalling Windows last night and PowerToys is now working as expected. Not sure what happened to my Task Scheduler.
