[request] PowerToys Run, execute hotkeys, switch to desktop

Open lastmetroid opened this issue 11 months ago • 5 comments

Description of the new feature / enhancement

Hello,

would be nice if a new feature could be implemented to send key or hotkeys, example: you type "win+d" => switch to desktop, "win" => opens start menu, "ctrl+shift+esc" => opens task manager, and so on.

Then also for the window switch, could you also please implement a "switch to desktop" / minimize all in the list.

Scenario when this would be used?

This would be really handy to use, especially if you command the PC through remote or game streams, and could then easily maneuver through Windows, where some hotkey bindings are not natively available.

Hi! We've identified this issue as a duplicate of another one that already exists on this Issue Tracker. This specific instance is being closed in favor of tracking the concern over on the referenced thread. Thanks for your report!

How is this a dup of #5668 ? Please reopen. This request is for sending macros via PowerToys Run. You type in for example win+d and it executes it.

Ah, I read that as you key "win+d" and all of those actions take place, like a macro. Are you asking for the ability to search for and execute commands like: show desktop, open start, open Task Manager, etc. from PT Run?

Could also be a duplicate of #11048

Here is a use case for this request:

I am using Moonlight/Sunhine to game stream from a host PC to client PCs. On the host I have PowerToys with module Run. So I can trigger alt+space through Moonlight (remote client) on the host. It would be handy to execute hotkeys on the host via the Run module this way while you are in a full screen mode like a game, for example you type in (some modifier like##) "##win+d" in the Run gui and this will execute win+d on the host, or any other key combination, or "##win" and executes win key. It would also be handy to have important hotkeys alreday build into the Run gui for the window switch feature, like having a button for window key.
