[Run][Shell Plugin] Delete commands from history

Open catmandx opened this issue 5 years ago • 2 comments

PowerToys Run should let the user delete certain commands.

I am loving the new PowerToys Run (previously known as Windows Walker with less functionalities), especially it's Shell Plugin invoking feature, I am experimenting with it and as a result, there are a lot of non-functional commands. I want to have them removed so that the commands history is more concise and easier to manage. Basically I want to have the history behave like bookmarks for commands.

For example: image This is my commands history. As you can see there are 3 nearly-identical commands and only 1 out of 3 works. If the other 2 can be removed, I can quickly navigate to the correct one without having to read it carefully.

I think using the Delete key to remove the current selected command is reasonable.

Has there been any advancement regrading this issue? Is there any possibility we could delete the entries from history in our own? After all, the command history must be stored somewhere.

Also interested in this (as well as ability to turn off command history completely) but for now there is workaround - close PowerToys, open {LocalAppData}\Microsoft\PowerToys\PowerToys Run\Settings\Plugins\Microsoft.Plugin.Shell\ShellPluginSettings.json, history is under "Count" property, after saving file start PowerToys again. Annoying but the only way I see now. I want to use Run plugin as a replacement for run but I really want ability to turn off history and/or clear commands from history.

this was open 3 years ago, any updates? i really find it annoying for it to have some weird cluttered mass of commands for just testing

They keep closing issues about history or ignoring them. I just gave up. They don't seem to understand what people want and that they just want a way to clear history or not save history at all. They just link all issues to old issue that is already closed and that issue was closed because they didn't even understand what the issue was (i.e. not being able to disable history).
