I know its been a while since this was opened but I had the same issue and figured I could add this for others to reference.

This issue occurred when one of my machines was updated to windows 11. For me it did not matter which machine I hosted on, if I connected my machine to the host, the host would not recognize it but the client would.

What I ended up doing to fix the issue:

  1. Generate a new key on a machine, then enter that key with the host name on the client device. The issue should still occur where the host name appears in the device layout/computer matrix on the client machine but not the host machine.

  2. On the host machine scroll on the MWB menu down to the Troubleshooting section and enable the "Show the original Mouse Without Borders UI" then restart. (I did this for both machines, but you may only need to do it on the host)

  3. Once the old UI is open, in the computer matrix, select the checkbox for the cell that is missing the client device name. Then type the machine name of client and hit enter.

Note: It might also work to edit the settings.json file on the host machine to populate the other machine and its ID under the "MachineMatrixString" and "MachinePool" though I have not tested that.

Hope that helps

The Newest version fixes a commonly appearing connection bug. Can you confirm that still happens with the newest version of PowerToys?
