I'm hitting this too, for some reason I was getting constant crashes when opening File Explorer and MSFS2020 was crashing on launch. Everything was fine a few days ago.

Stumbled on this issue, uninstalled PowerToys, and the problems went away.

I'm getting this as well. Just uninstalled the MS Store version and reinstalled the Git version 0.80.1, but it's still happening. Mine opens with a black window which hovers for a sec and then crashes if I use the taskbar context menu. If I double click it will open PT, but if I try to move the window it crashes. I can interact with it if I don't try to move it, but then it will crash by itself after about a minute. After crashing a few times FancyZones will show the layout overlay as though I was attempting to switch the layout, but it wont go away and I have to force quit it using the keyboard as it's blocking all mouse interaction. Running Windows 11 23H2 build: 22631.3447

@travislrogers @neilenns Reinstall your graphics card driver. The Windows auto-update feature overwrites that your manual install version.

Same here. Driver reinstallation doesn't help

If all PowerToys modules unloaded from Explorer, it doesn't crash. The solution: if only PowerToys crashes, then reinstall your windows and replace your NVIDIA GPU with AMD one is obvious, though unacceptable.

https://github.com/microsoft/PowerToys/issues/32147

for this error, we worked with a company and think we know what is happening.

Company did have GPO enabled however we can repro this scenario Imo without setting GPO

  1. turn off file locksmith, rename, and new+
  2. quit powertoys
  3. wait a few seconds run tasklist /m PowerToys.*
Image Name                     PID Modules
========================= ======== ============================================
explorer.exe                 13384 PowerToys.PowerRenameExt.dll,
                                   PowerToys.FileLocksmithExt.dll,
                                   PowerToys.NewPlus.ShellExtension.win10.dll
  1. reboot
  2. on restart, let machine fully start
  3. wait a few seconds run tasklist /m PowerToys.*
Image Name                     PID Modules
========================= ======== ============================================
explorer.exe                 21808 PowerToys.PowerRenameExt.dll,
                                   PowerToys.FileLocksmithExt.dll

You can see i fully have stuff off.

Two information provide, we should able to close this issues: a. In 0.94.0, if people haven't turn on (OR GPO Disable) the following explorer related addon features, including the following:

  1. File locksmith
  2. New+
  3. PowerRename
  4. Image Resizer They will not be registered in explorer. In contrast in the past (<=0.93.0), all of them were ALWAYS registered even they are disabled.

b. Given the 0x8898008d is still the GPU/Graphic drivers problem in general, not something we can fix directly. I will suggest for folks faced this, @neilenns, @ThePensive, @AlexMKX, , i.e. with Exception code: 0x8898008d See if turn off advanced Graphics setting in Windows can help: Image
