Ability to disable plugin keyword display during zero-state

Open Anush-Nair opened this issue 1 year ago • 12 comments

Description of the new feature / enhancement

Love the fluent update! Just one suggestion: The zero state update to show current plugins is very cool for new users but it also adds weight to the UI. I'm not sure if there is an existing request but would love to have a toggle to "hide plugin commands when search box is empty/in zero-state". It would make sense for the toggle to be disabled by default.

Scenario when this would be used?

As a regular user of Powertoys Run, I would like to have a minimal UI when I open the search utility, taking up as little space as possible and only expanding when I input a term.

I tried to roll back to the previous version because of this. Can't stand the hints personally. I like my launchers to look clean and minimal. Need to be able to disable the hints.

I agree with this. I much prefer the more minimal and clean design of the previous layout of PowerToys Run. The new window box also takes up more space around the search bar and takes up the maximum space even when there is only one item visible in the search. I think the previous layout was perfect.

I like the new look and the seemingly improved performance, but can't avoid joining this request. Maybe these suggestions can be shown on first launch, dismissed and then brought back with some special command like typing ??? or something. Probably could be it's own separate plugin for Run, to recycle functionality already present.

Please return it back where it is only the textbox appearing and remove the plugin keywords, its kinda annoying to see and yeah it actually breaks the minimal design that I want. I prefer a toggle to hide it or suggest it only when you haven't tried that feature yet and once the user had a history of using it like for example the mathematical equations then the next time I use the powertoys run it won't show up anymore as an immediate suggestion. I am rooting for an update to remove it!!

I can only agree to it! The previous version looked way cleaner. Make Plugin Keywords as Optional setting for those who like it, but by default it should stay disabled.

Yes please, the old bar was way cleaner! A great feature for new users but a pain for us that already know the shorthand.

Making it an option in the setting is a great solution. Or possibly don't have it pop up immediately but add a delay to it.

I find myself rarely using PowerToys Run after this design decision. It's not good. If I need to look at bunch of useless things, I can use windows search.

I searched for ways to turn off the "hints" which brought me here. I very much agree with the OP! Please bring back the old design or at least make it an option to turn it off.

Full agree.

folks, the issue has been fixed on the latest update. It's a setting almost at the bottom, before the Plugins section: set "Plugin hints" to "None".

Can confirm this is the way to remove the hints. Go to PowerToys Settings > PowerToys Run > Plugin hints and set to None.
