Disable PowerToys Shortcut.

Open nasimpro opened this issue 2 years ago • 5 comments

Description of the new feature / enhancement

I want to disable some of the program's default shortcuts. PowerToys itself comes with predefined keyboard shortcuts to activate various functions. I specifically want to disable, not modify, certain shortcuts. For instance, I want to disable the color picker keyboard shortcut, which is Win+Shift+C.

Scenario when this would be used?

This is useful when the user doesn't want to deactivate the color picker entirely but simply wishes to disable its keyboard shortcut.

How would you want to invoke it then? /needinfo

by clicking on the tray icon and then selecting the color picker.

I have exactly the same request. I would like to use features like color picker or ruler without the need to apply a shortcut to those. I would just launch them from the tray panel.

Any configured shortcut adds the chance to conflict with any other external application at some point in the future, which I would like to avoid.

Likewise I would like to also suggest to maybe not set shortcuts for new features by default. If I'm not mistaken all new features are enabled when newly added and therefore their shortcuts can also suddenly conflict with other applications, which was once a problem for me in the past.

But adding the option to disable shortcuts should be the main focus for this issue here and the other suggestion is just a maybe. :)

Just today, I received the PowerToys update that replaced Paste As Plain Text (which I had been using) with the new Advanced Paste. I don't have significant need of the shortcut that opens the Advanced Paste GUI, as the only real useful part of this feature (to me) remains Paste As Plain Text. However, I was suddenly struck by the complete inability to deactivate a keyboard shortcut in the PowerToys settings when I attempted to do so.

I don't need both a keyboard shortcut for Advanced Paste GUI and for Paste As Plain Text, I only need a keyboard shortcut for Paste As Plain Text. But when I open the shortcut editor for the Advanced Paste keyboard shortcut, there is no button that says Remove, Delete, or Erase. I can make the shortcut disappear by hitting the Esc key, but when I do that, the Save button becomes grayed out!

Why was the ability to remove a keyboard shortcut completely left out of this software?

+1 from me. I used to map unwanted keys by holding Alt, Sh, Ctl, Win...and managed to get a non-shortcut. This seems to have been fixed now. Anyway, I too usually disable adv paste, half of crop&lock, color picker and fancy zones editor launch.

Frankly, I would keep more modules on if it weren't for the pesky shortcuts. On that topic, there should be more items/triggers in the single-click systray "menu".

+1 from me. FYI. Some version of this already exists for the other "optional" shortcuts. You can "right click" to clear any hotkey in the "Paste as markdown directly configuration. Could be a simple code change. image
