File Locksmith unclear localization

Open westart opened this issue 3 years ago • 2 comments

Microsoft PowerToys version

0.64.0

Utility with translation issue

File Locksmith

🌐 Language affected

Italian

❌ Actual phrase(s)

Fabbro File

✔️ Expected phrase(s)

File Bloccati (or something similar)

ℹ Why is the current translation wrong

In italian the word "Fabbro" is more related to a blacksmith than the person who repair the locks

I'm agree: "Fabbro File" translations is very misleading. "File bloccati" is a good and better alternative.

👍 "Fabbro file" localization is not misleading, is totally unsense! 😁

Hi! Thanks for making us aware of the problem. We raised the issue with our internal localization team. This issue should be fixed hopefully in the next version of PowerToys.

This should be fixed in a newer build such as .70.1, can you please verify? /needinfo

Ciao @crutkas 👋 Fixed? No, I wouldn't say that. The new name assigned is "Blocco file", in english much similar to "Locking file" and not "File locked" as one would expect from a correct italian translation.

The correct choice would be the one proposed by @westart (then "File bloccati", "File Locked") at the beginning of the discussion, or keep the original name of the tool and then return to File Locksmith, kind of like what happens with FancyZones, PowerRename or PowerToys Run, leaving only the explanation in Italian, which is already correct and needs no further editing.
