Space around zones being added even though disabled

Open ericmoolin opened this issue 1 year ago • 7 comments

Microsoft PowerToys version

0.61.0

Running as admin

  • [X] Yes

Area(s) with issue?

FancyZones

Steps to reproduce

When I have my laptop plugged into my work monitor (it's an ultrawide) my fancy zones add space around the zones even though the layout has it set to 0 and disabled. Restarting Power Toys seems to fix the issue, however after the latest update the Power Toys program does not show up in my app tray / search so re-opening it now requires extra steps. I am running Windows 11.

✔️ Expected Behavior

Fancy zones without any space around zones.

❌ Actual Behavior

On boot, fancy zones has space around zones even though disabled and set to 0.

Other Software

No response

This has been mentioned in so many posts its hard to keep track, but this is a widespread and known issue with only bandaid fixes of changing to -2 for the gap. This causes 2px of your window to be off screen or on your 2nd monitor if you use. Only difference for me is restarting powertoys does not fix the issue... the only way I've found it works is using the -2px setting mentioned above

Just wanted to chime in about this one too. If it were up to me I'd have this "feature" disabled by default - I can't really understand why you'd want to have a gap between your windows in the first place to be honest.

@stephendt that's just a matter of personal opinion. There are a number of things I don't understand, both in settings (not just PT's) or in preferences of other people.

P.S. I'm starting to think the mentioned result isn't really caused by FancyZones, but maybe because Windows (or windows) rounds the size of a window up to the next integer, or something like that.

Finding this on v0.64.0, but only on my second monitor. First monitor also had space around zones readded but opening the layout editor and toggling some stuff on/off fixed it.

Second display's zone gaps persist despite restarting PowerToys multiple times and trying to fuss with the layout (that displays correctly in the editor).
