  • Search something on the web with PowerToys Run

A new tab in the browser

A new browser window

I can reproduce here. Seems like the behavior for Firefox is different that the one for Chrome. Let's investigate what's going on, if there's something we can do on PowerToys side.

Trying it out, it seems that when called from the command line for a search, Firefox always opens a new window. As far as I can tell, there's not way to change it to a new tab instead.

I also have the same issue, PowerToys run does open in a new window. However I can also confirm, that all the Command Line Options firefox provides (most importantly ofc -new-tab, -new-window and -search) seem to open in a new window.

Since any links (URL) opened from anywhere in desktop opens in a new tab of Firefox, I guess there might be a workaround.

FYI, this is IMHO a duplicate of #15288 which also explains why that happens and links to some open bugs on Firefoxs bugzilla (see this & this comment)...
