Fancy Zone undock still open next time in Zone

Open odroegehorn opened this issue 3 years ago • 9 comments

Microsoft PowerToys version

"0.59"

Running as admin

  • [X] Yes

Area(s) with issue?

FancyZones

Steps to reproduce

Dock a window (e.g. Explorer) to a Zone. Have enabled "open new window in last known zone". Undock the window from the zone and close the window. When opening a new Explorer Window it is snapped to the last known zone, although it has been undocked before.

✔️ Expected Behavior

When the Window was undocked, a new Window should also be undocked an remain in the undocked size as it was before

❌ Actual Behavior

After undock and window close, a new window is opened in the last zone.

Can you please check one thing to help us investigate the issue? When you dock the window to a zone, FancyZones writes info about it in the C:\Users\...\AppData\Local\Microsoft\PowerToys\FancyZones\app-zone-history.json and removes it when you undock the window. So, when you undock Explorer from the zone, do you still have info about it in the file? It should look like this:

{
        "app-path": "C:\\Windows\\explorer.exe",
        "history": [...]
}

Hi all,

yes, the info stays there, even after undock. I'll try to move the window out of the zones, until no zone is highlighted. But the file doesn't change.

Thanks, best.

Do you have other Explorer windows docked at the same time? /needinfo

Nope.

Any news on this?

Do you have the same behavior on 0.60.1?

SeraphimaZykova avatar Jul 27 '22 16:07 SeraphimaZykova

Yes, the behaviour is the same. Best.

Thank you for the reply. I'm trying to reproduce this behavior with no luck. Any additional info would be appreciated. Maybe a quick screen record can give me a hint what's going on. Can you please do it? /needinfo
