FancyZones app-running-as-administrator prompt doesn't honor the don't show again option

Open SteveSyfuhs opened this issue 3 years ago • 1 comments

Microsoft PowerToys version

0.58.0

Running as admin

  • [ ] Yes

Area(s) with issue?

FancyZones

Steps to reproduce

Launch Terminal as admin, click through UAC, observe the notification that FancyZones doesn't work with elevated windows. Click the button to not show again. Take a new flight of Windows (reboot, restart, etc.), relaunch Terminal as admin and observe the notification again, and that the ignore isn't honored.

Unclear if the trigger is the new flight or just a new logon session or if it's because this is happening over RDP.

✔️ Expected Behavior

The notification doesn't pop up.

❌ Actual Behavior

The notification continues to pop up.

Other Software

No response

Can confirm this issue. From what I've observed, the "Don't show again" option is honored until PowerToys updates, so something in the update process is deleting the setting.

Workaround: Running as admin works for both admin and non-admin apps.

C:\Program Files\PowerToys\modules\FancyZones\PowerToys.FancyZones.exe

This message of PowerToys does not make any sense, as long as it does not let us now which program runs as administrator.

This issue is open for 2 years now. I just want to share that this is incredibly annoying from a UX perspective.

I get these notifications for FancyZones & Always on Top, and the "Never show again" buttons are never honored. I use both tools very rarely and see this notification multiple times per day. Makes me close to uninstalling PowerTools as a whole.
