Update issue again
Microsoft PowerToys version
v0.37.0
Running as admin
- [X] Yes
Area(s) with issue?
Installer
Steps to reproduce
when upgrading from v0.37.0 to v0.37.2
✔️ Expected Behavior
... perfection is not required as this is a 'experts' tool but as this is the 3rd update and the 3rd install with warnings and errors I've had, if you want this to be a Win10 main feature, it might be time to ask the Windows Team for some assistance.
❌ Actual Behavior
Run PowerToys settings as admin Check for updates click the install now windows notification starts and then error:
Can't uninstall previous version warning
and then
[close powertoys settings before continuing the install]
Retry and all OK. Restarted PC just to be safe.
Other Software
No response

To be honest, this seems a problem with your system, we have an average of 500K installations per months and only few installation failure. Have you tried the Microsoft uninstall trouble shooter? https://download.microsoft.com/download/7/E/9/7E9188C0-2511-4B01-8B4E-0A641EC2F600/MicrosoftProgram_Install_and_Uninstall.meta.diagcab

"Microsoft uninstall trouble shooter" did not find any problems on my PC, but I will uninstall PowerToys using the tool and reinstall from scratch just to be sure.
PowerToys do have a high number of installs, do you have a number of 'Check for updates' HTTP requests that came in the last month from 'old' versions?

I think this might be related to the notifications bar launching the install itself?
Maybe its not elevated to admin? Not sure how these systems interact but I do have Smart Screen turned off and I can't even remember if UAC is still a thing, but if it was I'd probably turned that off too.
It worked when launched to update from explorer. Just not when the settings is launched as admin and the notifications bar was invovled.
Is this still an issue when updating from 0.49 to 0.51?

Tried the update today and it popped up "can't close Explorer" it then closed the shell Explorer and the whole system flashed on and off while the installer worked then restarted. Not good. I was sure it was running as admin
Is this still an issue?
Clicked the notification for the update from v0.59.1-> v0.61.1 from the notifications on the right of the screen, the updater window blinked into existence and blinked out almost instantly.
Hitting "try again to download& install" from the main window did the same.

Exiting power toys and trying to run as admin did not solve the issue.

Lmao good one MS. I guess I just wont. Because windows has now managed to "attempt but fail" to do version update itself, having to auto roll back for like 6 times. So w/e.
Guess I'll be updating neither.
does this issue still happen with v0.73.0? /needinfo
