Update notification is not readable in french
Microsoft PowerToys version
0.33.1
Utility with translation issue
General
🌐 Language affected
French
❌ Actual phrase(s)
The first one is most probably "Mettre à jour maintenant" (Update now), but the second actually I don't know ... I'm not able to read it, and not able to infer it from its beginning "Au prochain la..."
✔️ Expected phrase(s)
For the first one I would just put "Maintenant", not sure for the second one ...
I was about to recommend you to add a tooltip, but apparently it's not supported by window's toast notifications :/
ℹ Why is the current translation wrong
Because I'm not able to read it :)
From a different bug, but EN-US translation:
This feels like a limitation for the notification platform for word wrapping.
Looking at the Notification Visualizer / notification schema, not totally sure if this is possible. Validating with team. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/uwp/design/shell/tiles-and-notifications/toast-schema#itoastactions
From a different bug, but EN-US translation:
Then I would assume that the text in french is "Au prochain lancement". But unfortunately I don't really see a shorter sentence for this one, maybe "Prochain démarrage" but I don't think it will fit neither :/
Maybe if you add an icon (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/uwp/design/shell/tiles-and-notifications/adaptive-interactive-toasts?tabs=builder-syntax#buttons-with-icons) the text will wrap as the style is completely different? (Also the text is smaller, maybe it will be enough ... at least for french).
So verifying with the team, while not ideal, on insider flights, the OS does properly word wrap stuff but on 20H2 release of Windows 10, it still renders like how you have. From an app side, little it seems like we can override due to how those notifications are actually are requested / generated.
I don't know really what to do here as not loc'ing would be weird since you'd be in a hybrid english to french area but 100% see the problem of not being able to read it.
@crutkas we will have to change that notification UI anyway since the "Snooze" functionality is buggy and unreliable. We can consider having just two buttons there, one to update now, and one to open the settings for more options. In the settings we will have more options/information and that would also be always available in the settings even if you dismiss the toast notification.
Is this still an issue with the latest version? /needinfo
