Expand OBJ utility

Open Troy-Ferrell opened this issue 6 years ago • 1 comments

Describe the problem

OBJ Utility in #6361 has two current issues:

  1. Only saves OBJs at runtime, does not load
  2. Only targets Unity GameObjects/meshes. Does not offer ability to directly provide array of vectors3 which can be totally async and not a coroutine

Loading should also offer both loading and creating a GameObject as well as loading data into a struct...so again things can be totally async background thread

Describe the solution you'd like

Describe alternatives you've considered

List item 1 should be solvable using https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/mixed-reality/mrtk-unity/features/spatial-awareness/spatial-object-mesh-observer?view=mrtkunity-2021-05

List item 2 does sound interesting to move away from referencing scene objects and thus the main thread requirement. We've added this to the backlog as a potential 3.x timeframe improvement.

We appreciate your feedback and thank you for reporting this issue.

Microsoft Mixed Reality Toolkit version 2 (MRTK2) is currently in limited support. This means that Microsoft is only fixing high priority security issues. Unfortunately, this issue does not meet the necessary priority and will be closed. If you strongly feel that this issue deserves more attention, please open a new issue and explain why it is important.

Microsoft recommends that all new HoloLens 2 Unity applications use MRTK3 instead of MRTK2.

Please note that MRTK3 was released in August 2023. It features an all new architecture for developing rich mixed reality experiences and has a minimum requirement of Unity 2021.3 LTS. For more information about MRTK3, please visithttps://www.mixedrealitytoolkit.org.

Thank you for your continued support of the Mixed Reality Toolkit!
