Add support for WebXR

Open iweinbau opened this issue 4 years ago • 4 comments

Describe the problem

As AR/VR web applications become more and more popular. Adding support for WebXR would be a nice addition to the toolkit. In this way we can use all features the MRTK toolkit provide without having to rely on external packages.

Describe the solution you'd like

Adding a new Input Data Provider to support WebXR and adding project settings for WebGL like we have now for OpenXR.

Describe alternatives you've considered

Previously, I tried Implementing my own Input Data Provider and using exernal packages that support WebXR without having the functionallity which the MRTK toolkit provide.

Hey @iweinbau have you explored this community contribution for webXR? https://github.com/Rufus31415/Simple-WebXR-Unity

Yes, but I was wondering if there would be native support in the future as this package does not yet support all interaction.

Oh great. This is something that's on our radar for v3.

We appreciate your feedback and thank you for reporting this issue.

Microsoft Mixed Reality Toolkit version 2 (MRTK2) is currently in limited support. This means that Microsoft is only fixing high priority security issues. Unfortunately, this issue does not meet the necessary priority and will be closed. If you strongly feel that this issue deserves more attention, please open a new issue and explain why it is important.

Microsoft recommends that all new HoloLens 2 Unity applications use MRTK3 instead of MRTK2.

Please note that MRTK3 was released in August 2023. It features an all new architecture for developing rich mixed reality experiences and has a minimum requirement of Unity 2021.3 LTS. For more information about MRTK3, please visithttps://www.mixedrealitytoolkit.org.

Thank you for your continued support of the Mixed Reality Toolkit!
