How to De-Register a Resource Kind

I am receiving the following error when I try to rename my DataSource.Kind to a name that I have previously used or create solutions with the same name as another solution (stored in different directories, obviously).

"Error loading extension: The resource kind 'NAME' has already been registered"

It's becoming very frustrating because the NAME.query.pq file appears to default to the registered connector and not the solution I am currently working on. This obviously causes A LOT of confusion.

How do I flush/de-register previous resource kind names?
