Bug Description
We are forced to use this tool, and it is absolutely frustrating. Among the massive number of issues I have had with it, the most important are
-
No matter what version I try to install, it always fails downloading from a directory halfway with no reason and no useful debug info on my desktop PC
-
Downloads are a success on my laptop but it downloads incomplete directories when I am telling to download everything including subdirectories and their files. Random missing files that just cost me an entire day of debugging trying to figure out what is wrong with the driver. Turns out the tool decides to not download certain files at random.
-
Every time I download anything, it completely takes down my entire household network. I have to reboot router and modem like 10 times and wait like 20 minutes for connection to stabilize again even after the download finishes. It breaks the modem\device, it is just incredible.
-
The tool is complicated to use. Please selfhost in average normal users.
I could keep going. I have never ever faced a more frustrating tool. I just my company went back to share directories. I've wasted so much time wrestling the tool
Steps to Reproduce
Just use it, something will break......
Actual Experience
Total and absolute frustration that I have not felt in my 20 years of engineering experience
Expected Experience
For one, do no take down my entire household network

Thanks for the feedback. Would you mind elaborating a bit more on the issues you've run into? For example,
-
Were you downloading Blobs? Files? ADLS Gen2? Were you downloading to your local drive or a network share? Is there a proxy service in place? How big was the object being downloaded? Also, have you looked at the log files to see the error messages? You can find the logs under the Help->Open Logs Directory menu
-
Were you downloading ADLS Gen2 (Datalake files)? Are the directories/files empty?
-
Underneath Storage Explorer, we use AzCopy for uploads/downloads. There is a series of parameters for data transfer you can configure to best work with your network bandwidth. They are under Settings->Transfer->AzCopy. You can try to adjust the Max transfer rate, network concurrency, file concurrency, buffer size, etc.

We'd love to hear your suggestions on how to make Storage Explorer easier to use. Any specific examples would be very helpful.
Thanks.
