Bug Description
Opened ASE and noticed I was signed out and all of my previously linked shares are missing. When trying to sign in it will pend indefinitely in the "Starting sign in" loop (or the equivalent one for when I switch the sign-in location to default browser).
Steps to Reproduce
- Launch Storage Explorer
- "Sign in with Azure" --> Azure -- > Next
Actual Experience
Waiting indefinitely on "Starting sign in" or equivalent for other sign in methods
Expected Experience
Browser or other SSO prompt is initiated.
Additional Context
Tried upgrading from an older version, where I first noticed this (IIRC it was the October build) and that did not fix it. This was my first time logging into ASE since upgrading my OS, so it could possibly be an OS issue.
Happy to collect and provide any necessary logs.
Hi @dasaffro-msft. It sounds like you have tried signing in with all the different sign in methods, correct? Can you try following the steps in the troubleshooting docs to reset authentication and sign out before trying to sign in again?
If the above doesn't resolve the sign in issue can you share your authentication logs. The steps to do so are here.
Run into the same issue. It seems Storage Explorer isn't happy with the presence of .Net 9 runtime. Here is the servicehub log:

Setting DOTNET_ROOT env. variable to C:\Program Files\dotnet fixed the problem for me (it was C:\Program Files\dotnet\shared for whatever reason)
@dasaffro-msft Is this still an issue for you? Have you had a chance to review the troubleshooting guide or retrieve your authentication logs? Did @Tavriets's suggestion help?
Closing due to inactivity. If this is still an issue, please respond with answeres to the above questions, and we can revisit.
@craxal Yes, the suggestions helped. It looks like dotnet was not installed; after installing the latest everything got back into a good state. Thank you.
